Find Adams County Traffic Court

Start with the court printed on your Adams County traffic ticket, because that office keeps the official record for your case. County and city matters sit with different clerks here. An Adams County traffic court docket shows which court issued the citation, whether you have responded, and any hearing now set. Public search tools can help you find a case or a date. The issuing court still holds the final word. Paying, asking for a payment plan, mitigating, and contesting each carry different consequences, so read the citation and the docket early.

Traffic Case Records in Adams County

The court named on the ticket owns the case. Adams County District Court sits in Othello and Ritzville. It handles county-level civil infractions and criminal traffic matters. Othello Municipal Court keeps the city's traffic and municipal cases. Ritzville municipal matters route through Ritzville District Court under the state directory. Lind, Washtucna, and Hatton have no separate public traffic portal. A ticket bearing one of those city names goes back to the court printed on it.

A traffic docket can list the court and the case or citation number. It also covers the filing date, the alleged violation, your response, hearings, continuances, defaults, costs, and related orders. A mandatory criminal citation runs on a different track. It is not a civil infraction. The Adams County Citation and Infraction page tells anyone holding a mandatory criminal citation to verify the date with Ritzville District Court.

Four Adams Traffic Response Choices

A civil citation gives you four initial choices. You can pay, request a payment plan, seek mitigation, or contest. Mitigation admits the infraction but lets you explain, with a possible penalty adjustment. A contested hearing challenges the allegation outright. The State must prove it by a preponderance of the evidence. That simply means more likely than not. The official county instructions lay out this fork in practical terms.

Adams County traffic court pay mitigation and contest instructions

The page ties each choice to the citation deadline and the issuing court. It posts no separate online payment or citation-number lookup, so the ticket and the clerk's instructions control.

Pay
Resolve the civil infraction through the court's accepted payment method.
Payment plan
Ask the court for an arrangement; local eligibility details must be confirmed.
Mitigation
Admit the infraction and explain circumstances to the judge.
Contest
Challenge whether the infraction was committed.

Adams County Traffic Ticket Lookups

District Court and Othello Municipal Court records share one county route. That route is re:Search WA. Expect no particular citation format, button, or filter until you try the docket search yourself. The older Find My Court Date tool can supply reference dates when the court is available. The county calendar adds event labels. Neither source replaces the issuing court's case file. Treat them as leads and confirm with the clerk.

  1. Read the court name, response date, and exact number printed on the citation.
  2. Try the current re:Search WA public court-record route for District or Municipal Court.
  3. Check Find My Court Date and the county calendar for a matching court and setting.
  4. Call the issuing court if the citation is missing, new, or shown under a different division.
  5. Inspect the record at the court counter or submit the court-record form for a copy.

Phone numbers still matter here. Ritzville District Court answers at 509-659-1002, Othello District Court at 509-488-3935, and Othello Municipal Court at 509-331-2743. Call them directly during the 2026 system transition.

Adams Traffic Courts by Place

Location alone does not settle jurisdiction. A city police citation can route differently than a county or state-agency ticket. Othello runs both a District and a Municipal Court. The word "Othello" alone is not enough. Read the full court caption. Ritzville municipal matters go through Ritzville District Court under the current directory rather than a separately listed city court.

  • Adams District Court, Othello, keeps county infractions and other limited-jurisdiction cases filed there.
  • Adams District Court, Ritzville, keeps its county cases and routed Ritzville municipal matters.
  • Othello Municipal Court keeps Othello city-code and municipal traffic matters.

For any other incorporated place, follow the court name printed on the ticket. Call a District Court clerk when the city and court names differ. Searching only city names can miss the actual case file.

Traffic Court Dates in Adams County

The paper citation comes first for dates. A public case result can then confirm the setting. The Adams County calendar helps you spot local blocks like mitigated, contested with attorney, contested pro se, or show cause. A block on the calendar is not proof that your case sits there. Match the case-level docket, and call the clerk when dates conflict.

A continuance can leave an older calendar event in view. Look for a later reset, continued, pass, new-setting, or order entry, then confirm the operative date with court staff.

Adams Traffic Calendar Labels

Local labels carry real procedural meaning. "Mitigated" marks an admitted infraction set for explanation. "Contested" marks a challenge, split into attorney and pro se settings. "Show cause" demands an explanation for a specified failure, including a missed requested hearing in the infraction context. The 2026 court technology timeline helps explain why one case can appear under both old and new system language.

Adams County traffic court Enterprise Justice transition event

Change arrived in stages. Adams District Othello, Adams District Ritzville, and Othello Municipal went live with Enterprise Justice on May 4, 2026. The county then began directing records searches to re:Search WA on June 1, 2026.

Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It

Respond within 30 days of issue, or 33 days after mailing, under county and RCW 46.63.070 guidance. Paying resolves the matter under the court's payment instructions. A plan buys time to pay. Mitigation accepts the infraction but asks the judge to weigh the facts. Contesting disputes it and leads to a hearing.

Do not ignore a citation. Failure to respond or appear can produce court action and a report to the Department of Licensing. A mandatory criminal citation may also carry a warrant or detention consequence.

Lost Adams Traffic Citations

Losing a paper ticket is fixable. Mail a written request to Adams County District Court that includes your full name, mailing address, signature, and infraction number. No infraction number? Call the court you think has the case, and staff can point you toward the right route. The direct record form still needs a case number, because court staff will not run that search for you.

Hand delivery, mail, and email all work. The address is Adams County District Court, 210 W Broadway, Ritzville, WA 99169. Ritzville staff juggle heavy filing volume, so amendments or continuance papers agreed at the last minute may not get processed in time. File early enough for review. Keep proof of delivery too.

One more thing. A missing ticket does not pause the response deadline or cancel a scheduled Adams County traffic court appearance.

Two Records: Court File and Driver File

Two files track one traffic case. The court file covers the citation, the response, hearings, docket events, the ruling, and the amounts recorded in that case. The Department of Licensing keeps the driving file separately. A court may report a qualifying outcome, or a failure to respond or appear, to that agency.

Think custody, not content. The request form may offer a driving abstract. That option does not turn the court docket into the licensing agency's source file.

Adams Traffic Defaults and Set-Asides

Miss the response deadline or skip a requested hearing? Adams local infraction rule LIRLJ 3.2(b) allows a written motion asking that a default judgment be set aside. The rule describes one motion and handles mitigation and contested requests differently. Nothing is automatic. Use the court's current form. Confirm the procedure with the issuing court too.

RCW 46.20.289 tells the licensing agency to act once a court gives notice of a failure to respond or appear on a moving infraction. That consequence flows from court to agency. It is not a new criminal finding. A lawyer stepping into a traffic case should also check the local seven-day notice rule tied to the original contested-hearing request.

Adams Traffic Record Copy Fees

Copy costs live on the county's current county record page. The docket carries its own price. The citation or complaint and the judgment or resolution bill by the page. Certification has a base document fee. Extra pages add a charge on top of that. Do not enclose payment; District Court sends an invoice instead.

Court docket$5 per docketChronological case record
Citation or complaint$0.50 per pageUnderlying charging paper
Judgment or resolution$0.50 per pageOutcome document
Certified document$5 per documentPlus $1 for each added certified page

An older District Court fee PDF also lists a $10 infraction time-pay fee and deferred infraction fees of $150 and up. That schedule was revised in 2022. Confirm the amounts with the court first.

Ordering Adams Traffic Court Copies

The direct District Court form is the tool for an Adams District file. Check off what you want: citation or complaint, docket, judgment or resolution, certified document, or CD. Mark Othello or Ritzville. Supply the exact case or citation number, pick a delivery method, and sign. Then wait for the invoice. After payment, certified documents go out by standard USPS or wait at the counter for pickup.

Othello Municipal is different. That city court is separately administered, so confirm the copy route with Jessica Melo's municipal court office before ticking a District Court checkbox. Call ahead on anything date-sensitive. No official source promises one universal processing time. Treat online case information as a reference aid; the clerk's copy is the court record.

Counter access: GR 31 provides free inspection of available public court records at the courthouse. Copying and certification may still carry the posted Adams County fees.
